States are beginning to give pharmacists new authorities to dispense contraceptives under state-wide protocols. This learning activity provides get up-to-date information on the latest developments in managing contraceptive care for female patients, ranging from safety considerations to providing patient education.

The speakers discuss recent, standardized protocols that allow pharmacists to furnish hormonal contraceptives to their patients, and offer suggestions to community pharmacists in managing oral contraceptive care.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:

1. Discuss the significance of recent standardized protocols that allow pharmacists to furnish hormonal contraceptives.
2. Formulate a plan to educate patients regarding contraceptives.
3. Identify resources of additional information for patients receiving oral hormonal contraceptives and for health care providers.

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education (CPE).
