Activity Preview

Suicide completion rates in the U.S. increased 24% from 1999 to 2014 according to the CDC.  The most suicide attempts were recorded in teens and young adults but individuals between ages 45-64 had the most suicide completions.  They also had the greatest jump in suicide completions from approximately 13 deaths by suicide/100,000 in 1999 to 20 deaths by suicide per 100,000 people in 2015. Reasons contributing to increasing suicide rates are multifactorial and include depression, chronic pain, the opioid crisis, trauma, loss, and firearm accessibility to name a few.

Healthcare providers including pharmacists may not know what to say to someone to get them to open up about emotional pain, depression, or suicidal thoughts and plans.  This webinar is designed to provide pharmacists with the tools needed to start a conversation about depression and suicide and assist patients with recovery.
