APhA Quick Quiz: Stop Suicide

Activity Preview

Suicide and depression are part of the human experience, but they are difficult to talk about. Stigma surrounding suicide, depression, and treatment contributes to both patient and provider silence. Patients don’t want to be seen as “mental” for acknowledging depression or taking a psychiatric medication.

Take this quiz to learn about effective strategies for getting patients to open up about emotional pain, depression, or suicidal thoughts and plans. Prepare yourself to recommend effective treatments.

Learning Objective

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify contributing factors to patients not seeking mental health care and opting for suicide.
  2. Review difficult conversations about depression and suicide with patients, health care providers and the public.
