Activity Preview

This activity is intended for BCACPs in need of recertification credit and is designed based on the content outline developed by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). This series will feature succinct commentaries about practice-changing evidence through a series of podcasts, articles. online panel discussions, and polls. This module consists of 4 activities and offers up to 2 hours of continuing pharmacy education and/or recertification credit. These activities are part of the APhA professional development program for BCACP recertification approved by the BPS.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

D-PRESCRIBE Trial: When age goes up, the medications must go down!

  1. Identify patient-related and agent-related factors that may warrant interventions related to de-prescribing inappropriate medications
  2. Evaluate the study methodology, primary and secondary findings, as well as strengths and limitations of the D-PRESCRIBE trial 
  3. Develop a de-prescribing initiative when given a description of an ambulatory care pharmacy setting 
  4. Discuss the implications of a pharmacist-led de-prescribing protocol in community and ambulatory care pharmacy practice

Is a Team-Based Approach in Primary Care Worth It?

1. Summarize the evidence to support team-based care in primary care.
2. Identify strategies to promote team-based care in primary care practice
3. Describe key components of effective interprofessional team-based care

Cardiovascular Risk with Elevated Triglycerides - Does Icosapent Ethyl Reduce-IT?

  1. Assess study design and patient characteristics of the Reduction of Cardiovascular Events with Icosapent Ethyl Intervention Trial (REDUCE-IT).
  2. Calculate and analyze number needed to treat (NNT) and number needed to harm (NNH) utilizing data from REDUCE-IT.
  3. Apply data from REDUCE-IT to patient cases centered around cardiovascular risk reduction.

Top Ten Things Every Clinician Should Know About the 2018 Cholesterol Guidelines

  1. Determine 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk using patient-specific risk-enhancing factors.
  2. Define the role of non-statin cholesterol-lowering treatment options.
  3. Recall the components of shared decision making.
  4. Design a patient-specific cholesterol-lowering treatment plan.

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This activity is approved for 0.2 contact hours of CPE credit (0.2 CEUs). The ACPE Universal Activity Number for this activity is 0202-0000-19-216-H04-P.

To obtain credit for Evidence-Based Practice Module 1, complete the learning activities, assessment with a grade of 71% or better, and evaluation questions. Then, you will be able to claim credit.
