With health care’s escalating cost, suboptimal quality, and excessive waste hindering improvements in our populations’ health, it is well understood that the U.S. health care system needs to change.
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- List three reasons the U.S. health care system is moving from a fee-for-service payment model to a value-based payment model.
- Define what is meant by value when used in health care.
- Identify and describe current value-based payment models.
- Describe the challenges with each of the current value-based payment models.
- Describe strategies for practice change that will enable pharmacists to prepare for value-based payment.
