Pharmacists are uniquely positioned in the community to start conversations on mental health, address the stigma associated with mental health disorders, and direct patients on a pathway to improved outcomes and recovery.  This archived webinar is the 3rd installment of a 4-part webinar series designed to help pharmacists in various practice settings start conversations with patients about mental health. 

For this archived webinar, an expert in the field will explore the many facets of substance use disorder and strategies for screening, destigmatizing the condition, and engaging in difficult conversations. Case examples will be presented that illustrate how pharmacists can initiate conversations to help patients begin the path to recovery.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this application-based activity, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the patient’s perspective of the experience of substance use disorder.
2. Employ effective communication skills to destigmatize substance use disorder.
3. Discuss strategies for pharmacists to screen for substance use disorder.
4. Demonstrate how pharmacists can engage in effective conversation with patients who have a substance use disorder.
