Nuclear pharmacies and pharmacy directors responsible for medications used in hospital nuclear medicine departments will need to review and compare the practices and procedures in place in their facility against what is included in the new USP chapter. Items like facility design, competency of staff, and infection control practices are critical areas that might need attention and review.  

This webinar is targeted for nuclear pharmacists, pharmacy directors, and nuclear medicine personnel responsible for the safe provision of radiopharmaceuticals. During this webinar, the speaker will discuss strategies for these medical professionals to improve their ability to make necessary and informed decisions regarding the provision of radiopharmaceuticals to ensure personal safety, environmental safety, and patient safety related to radiation risks and radiopharmaceutical quality. 

  

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the scope of USP <825>, including who it applies to within the categories of preparation, preparation with minor deviations, compounding, dispensing, and repackaging.  

  1. Describe the <825> standards for spaces dedicated to preparation and compounding sterile and non-sterile radiopharmaceuticals.  

  1. Identify USP <825> requirements for personnel qualification, including training and evaluation by a designated person in each category.   

  1. Apply USP <825> standards for immediate use when selecting equipment and components used in providing radiopharmaceuticals.

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This activity is approved for 1.0 contact hours of CPE credit (0.10 CEUs). The ACPE Universal Activity Number for this activity is 0202-0000-19-290-L07-P.

To obtain credit for Understanding USP <825>attend the activity, complete the evaluation, and then claim credit. Participants need to have a valid pharmacist.com username and password to claim credit. After credit has been claimed, please visit CPE monitor for your transcript.

APhA's continuing pharmacy education policy allows two opportunities to successfully complete the continuing pharmacy education assessment. Please note that the questions may not appear in the same order as printed and only two attempts to pass the assessment will be granted.  The current policy of the APhA Education Department is to not release the correct answers to any of our CPE tests. This policy is intended to maintain the integrity of the CPE activity and the assessment.
