Keep Up! Cannabis

General Information

Keep Up! is an on-demand and interactive professional development program created with the busy pharmacist in mind. Keep Up! is ACPE accredited and designed to be completed in 30 minutes, with two to three short mini-lessons on timely topics relevant to pharmacists in all practice settings. The series will consist of six total modules, with a new topic launching every other month.

Activity Preview

The medical and recreational use of cannabis - including marijuana and CBD products - has exploded in recent years.  Most states have legalized cannabis use for medical purposes but it remains a Schedule 1 substance under federal law.  Pharmacists are on the frontlines and should be prepared to answer patients' questions about marijuana use. During this brief (30 minute) program, participants will learn about:

  • Current legal and regulatory status of cannabis
  • Differences in the pharmacokinetic profiles of various marijuana delivery methods
  • Potential adverse consequences and drug-drug interactions associated with marijuana use

 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the current regulatory status of cannabis and the prevalence of its use in the United States.
  2. Evaluate various formulations of cannabis and their short- and long-term consequences when used recreationally.
  3. Identify actions that should be performed by pharmacists to improve patient safety issues and provide effective counseling for patients using cannabis.
