As dietary supplements gain popularity—and trends change rapidly—it can be difficult to know what’s appropriate for each patient. But as the most accessible health care providers in communities, pharmacists can educate patients about the safety and efficacy of dietary supplements and screen for potential drug interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic duplication. This session covers important items to discuss—and what to consider—when recommending dietary supplements for patients.
At the completion of this application-based activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the safety of select trendy dietary supplements.
- Discuss the efficacy of select trendy dietary supplements.
- Apply findings of recent literature to evaluate a patient’s candidacy for self-care when selecting appropriate dietary supplements.
