Cutting Through the Clutter of Cannabidiol Oil

When patients today are looking for a pain reliever, the topic of cannabidiol (CBD) oil invariably arises. Will it work for pain? Will it help insomnia? Can it ease anxiety? Is it safe to use? Although the data on CBD oil are limited to its use as an FDA-approved Schedule V drug product to treat children with certain forms of refractory epilepsy, you need to be prepared to answer questions from your patients. Come to this session to learn how and get insights into the spectrum of CBD oil products. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this application-based activity, participants will be able to

  1. Explain the chemistry of CBD and CBD extract (“oil”) derived from the cannabis plant.
  2. Discuss how CBD oil is regulated by FDA and DEA. 
  3. Explain CBD oil’s mechanism of action for seizure and other disorders. 
  4. Develop a plan to educate patients about CBD oil.
