Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist and pharmacy technician will be able to:

1. Describe the advanced technician roles currently offered in some U.S. states.

2. Identify the specific requirements technicians must meet to administer immunizations, verify prescriptions, and other expanded tasks.

3. Consider the potential impact that having technicians as immunizers could have on public health.

4. Review the potential impact of advanced technician roles on technician job satisfaction.

5. Describe opportunity for pharmacists created by utilizing technicians in advanced roles.

Accreditation Information

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This activity is approved for 2.0 contact hours of CPE credit (0.20 CEUs). The ACPE Universal Activity Number for this activity is 0202-0000-18-168-H04-P/T.

To obtain credit for "Transforming Pharmacy Practice: Advancing the Role of Technicians," complete the assessment with a grade of 70% or better, complete the evaluation, and then claim credit. APhA's continuing pharmacy education policy allows two opportunities to successfully complete the continuing pharmacy education assessment. This policy is intended to maintain the integrity of the CPE activity and the assessment.
