Pharmacists are uniquely positioned in the community to start conversations on mental health, address the stigma associated with mental health disorders, and direct patients on a pathway to improved outcomes and recovery.  This archived webinar is the 2nd installment of a 4-part webinar series designed to help pharmacists in various practice settings start conversations with patients about mental health. 

An expert in the field will explore the many facets of depression and strategies for screening, destigmatizing the condition, and engaging in difficult conversations with their patients. The speaker will present case examples that illustrate how pharmacists can engage in conversations to help patients recognize depression and begin a path to optimal recovery.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this application-based activity, pharmacists will be able to:

  1. Describe the patient’s perspective of the experience of major depression.  
  2. Employ effective communication skills to destigmatize depressive symptoms. 
  3. Discuss strategies for pharmacists to screen for depression. 
  4. Demonstrate how pharmacists can engage in an effective conversation with patients who experience depression.
