The good news: America’s attitude toward substance use disorder, treatment, and recovery is improving. Still, conversations between providers and patients or family caregivers around substance use disorders can be difficult and uncomfortable. In this webinar, you will hear from a behavioral health clinician and primary care specialist who examines the many faces of substance use disorder. You will also learn strategies for screening, destigmatizing the condition, and starting those difficult but necessary conversations. This was originally part of APhA Pain Institute 2020.
At the completion of this application-based activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the patient’s perspective of the experience of substance use disorder.
- Use effective communication skills to destigmatize substance use disorder.
- Discuss strategies for pharmacists to screen for substance use disorder.
- Demonstrate how pharmacists can engage in effective conversations with patients who have a substance use disorder.
