Recent research suggests that workplace stress is on the rise across health disciplines and pharmacists are no exception. Stress and its associated outcomes have importance implications for the well-being of the pharmacy workforce and the care provided to patients. However, a variety of strategies are available to individuals for managing stress in their workplace. This session will provide an overview of the stressors often facing pharmacists and the evidence to support individual- and organizational-focused interventions. Practical strategies for managing workplace stress will also be provided.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe common frameworks for understanding workplace stress.
  • List common workplace stressors and strains, and their implications for the pharmacy workforce.
  • Compare and contrast the evidence for individual and organizational approaches to workplace strain.
  • Describe primary and secondary stress management strategies available to individuals.

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
