COVID-19 Testing: Understanding the Different Types of Tests and the Role of the Pharmacy Team

Activity Preview

COVID-19 testing has become an important factor in understanding the full impact the virus has had in America and around the world. COVID-19 testing has various types of testing such as serology, antigen and molecular (RT-PCR) testing. Unfortunately, there are many different test kits available that have not been FDA approved and several tests that have been granted Emergency Use Authorization. Many of the tests have given false results that have impacted patients’ health. As one of the most accessible providers of health care, pharmacy teams can play a key role in ensuring that patients have accurate information on the dynamic landscape that is COVID-19 testing. During this session, a pharmacist will discuss the importance of the COVID testing, the role pharmacy team can play in getting patients appropriately tested, and opportunities for reimbursement.
