New Technologies in Influenza Vaccines

This online continuing education course will educate pharmacists and pharmacy technicians about innovative influenza vaccinations, the target population for each vaccine, and the clinical data supporting the targeted approach. Pharmacists will learn how to facilitate patient conversations regarding vaccine characteristics using shared clinical decision making strategies. A professional practice resource is included to serve as a quick reference guide for pharmacists to assist them when discussing vaccine options with patients.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist will be able to:
1. Describe technologies used in new influenza vaccine formulations and the key differences in available
influenza vaccine formulations.
2. Discuss the most recent ACIP influenza vaccination guidelines.
3. Summarize the target population for each vaccine, and the clinical data supporting the targeted approach,
and summarize patient specific factors to consider when recommending a vaccine formulation.
4. Describe counseling strategies in selecting the appropriate vaccine formulation as patients are considering
influenza immunization.

At the completion of this activity, the Pharmacy Technician will be able to:
1. Describe technologies used in new influenza vaccine formulations and the key differences in available
influenza vaccine formulations.
2. Discuss the most recent ACIP influenza vaccination guidelines.
3. Summarize the target population for each vaccine, and the clinical data supporting the targeted approach,
and summarize patient specific factors to consider when recommending a vaccine formulation.
