The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has updated the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine’s Emergency Use Authorization to include booster doses. This update comes approximately one month after the approval for third doses in immunocompromised patients. We will review the clinical evidence behind why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that specific groups receive the booster dose while it is not currently indicated in others. A summary of literature on the booster dose and its safety will be highlighted during the last half of the program.
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- List the population groups for which the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster dose is recommended
- Discuss the efficacy of BNT162-b2
- Discuss the clinical evidence supporting the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster dose for identified populations
- Discuss the clinical evidence and safety data for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster dose
